Luís Barros is known to rock lovers mainly as the drummer and composer of Tarantula, the most charismatic Portuguese hard & heavy band. But his musical CV covers several other aspects, such as producer, sound engineer and teacher, in which he has developed work that has led him to be a constant presence in some of the most important events and concert halls in the country.
Born in 1968 in Vila Nova de Gaia, Luís Barros was just 13 years old when he founded, with his brother Paulo Barros, Mac Zac, shortly afterwards renamed Tarantula.
The quality of the band’s music quickly attracted attention, including in Europe and United States, but the opportunity to release their first album would only arise in 1987. It was at that time that Luís and Paulo Barros began giving music lessons, an activity they continued and that years later they would give right in the founding of Rock’n’School.
When the band was preparing their third album, Tarantula III (1993), the Barros brothers created their own studio, Rec’n’Roll Studio, where they have recorded dozens of Portuguese bands of the most diverse genres, many of which produced by Luís Barros.
His career as a producer and sound engineer also includes international experiences, namely at the LCM Records studios, in São Paulo (Brazil), and at the legendary Area 51, in Hanover (Germany).
In Portugal, Luís Barros took on the role of sound engineer and stage management in numerous shows, held in spaces such as Coliseu do Porto, Teatro Rivoli, Teatro Sá da Bandeira, Meo Arena or Pavilhão Rosa Mota, in addition to being coordinator of the audio team at the 2004 edition of Rock in Rio Lisboa.
Since November 2004, Luís Barros has worked as stage manager/technical director at Coliseu do Porto, the biggest theater in Portugal. That gave him the opportunity to work with some of the greatest names in the industry.
